Sasha wanted to cry. So far she hadn't but Lilith Rodin was doing her nasty best to make it happen. Like Sasha's best friend and now sister, Evie, Lilith liked to be in charge of things. But while Evie was nice about it, making sure everyone was having as much fun as she was, Lilith was bossy and...not very nice.
It also didn't help that Sasha was the smallest girl in her class as well as being very sensitive. Her demeanor and her frail appearance made her a natural target for a bully.
At the moment, Lilith was dominating the table in their kindergarten classroom. There were normally six girls at the table, but Evie was getting some help cutting some paper at the teacher's desk. With her gone, Lilith let loose. The other girls were fidgeting, not joining in Lilith's taunts but afraid she'd turn her spite on them if they spoke up in protest.
"You're not really Evie's sister 'cause you're only 'dopted. And that's 'cause your mommy ran away. My mommy said she is trash and you are, too. You shouldn't even be here."
"You're mean," said a dark-haired girl at last who was sitting next to Sasha.
The girl slid her chair closer to Sasha and held her hand. The girl, Jamie, had started school late because her mother had just died and now her uncle took care of her. So both girls knew the recent loss of their mothers.
Lilith narrowed her eyes as she turned to Jamie.
"My mommy said your uncle is bad news. And you should shut up 'cause you don't even have a mommy."
That stung and Jamie's eyes watered. Sasha squeezed hard on Jamie's hand in support, silently begging her not to cry. Lilith moved in for the kill.
"Your mommy died 'cause she was trash, too. Bad news and trash."
"Oh yeah?" a new voice challenged.
Sasha and Jamie turned to see Evie behind them, having just returned to the table. Evie glared at Lilith, her normally cheerful countenance drawn down in a scowl. Evie pointed a tiny, damning finger at Lilith and spoke again.
"You're a Booger Head," she declared with ominous finality.
