Todd had just pulled out some papers and a bag of weed when Erica elbowed him in the ribs.
"What?" he asked, irritated.
Erica glared at him before jerking her head to the little girl sitting in the seat behind them in the van.
"What?" he asked innocently. "I've got plenty and I don't think she'll smoke much of it, anyway."
"Don't be an asshole," she hissed. "We'll be at the cabin in ten minutes and then you can have all you want."
"All I want?" he said with a smirk as he grabbed at a breast.
Erica couldn't stifle her grin as she batted his hand down.
"Yes - all. But I'm worried enough about keeping Gretchen's mouth shut. If she does blab, she doesn't need to be talking about funny-smelling cigarettes, okay?"
Todd nodded, pretending to look serious as he stuffed his stash away.
"Yeah, the poor kid is going to feel left out when the rest of us party. You know, there was a guy at the gas station who looked like a child molester. Maybe we should go back and get him so she can get laid, too. Then she won't tell for sure."
"Gross!" Nancy groaned from Erica's other side. "You really are an asshole, Todd."
"And that's news?" Rick asked from the front where he was driving. His girlfriend, Tasha, laughed from the passenger side seat.
"Keep it down," Erica groaned and turned to check on her charge, afraid she might have heard.
Gretchen was absorbed in a book - one of those Christian-themed ones she was always reading. The nine year-old's golden hair cascaded on either side of her face as she lost herself in the story.
Beside her, Nancy's boyfriend, Mike, shrugged as if to confirm that Gretchen had been oblivious to everything being said.
Erica exhaled in relief and turned to the front again. She had been Gretchen's babysitter for a few years. It was always an easy gig as the girl was a little goody-two-shoes. The trouble was, she might be a little too good.
Rick's uncle had a very spacious cabin out by Lake Grenville that he rented out to people. But when the group for this weekend cancelled abruptly, he offered it to his nephew on short notice. All of Erica's friends were going but Erica was already confirmed to sit for Gretchen that night.
Erica and her friends were all going to the local community college now and it wasn't a problem for them to stay the weekend since they were now adults. But Gretchen's parents were going to some church conference and would be staying in the city overnight. Erica was supposed to stay at Gretchen's until the couple returned Saturday evening. She was looking forward to the money from such a long sit but didn't want to miss this weekend. Mike was willing to bring them back on Saturday and then return with Eric once Gretchen's parents were home.
