In the future, a world far from Earth was colonized by humans. Its original designation was simply C74-A210ZB, based on a galactic charting directory. After a few decades, it earned the appropriately inspired name, New Gomorrah.
Like its biblical namesake, it is a den of iniquity paradoxically combined with centers of culture and learning. Anything is available to the highest bidder - or simply taken by force or by subterfuge. Among the most prized commodity among all races are young human females. By quirks of biology, they can be easily used for breeding purposes for a variety of species as well as for sexual pleasure.
Daisy hopped out of bed after verbally acknowledging the gentle chimes of her wake-up alarm. The home had the shower ready at the exact temperature she preferred. When she was done in the bathroom, she knew the valet system would have the clothing she had chosen the night before ready for her.
Her parents were professors at the university and were currently off-world attending a conference. While some parents would have balked at leaving an eight year-old child on her own, they were confident in their precociously bright daughter. The artificial intelligence that ran the house would take care of her material needs there and when she went to school, there were a trio of gronduks to guard their little girl.
Gronduks were an alien variety of hound, larger than a German Shepherd with heavy massive jaws. They were a fiercely protective breed and young Daisy had nothing to fear with her escort. During the school day, the beasts would remain outside the classroom, lying down but still vigilant for any possible threat to their beloved mistress. While school policy forbade animals to be inside, no one was about to argue about these creatures. Added to that was the fact that Daisy's academic performances in planet-wide and sector testing and competition were an asset to the school's reputation, so no one in administration was about to make any demands.
Daisy was equally fond of her "pets", who her father had named Groucho, Harpo, and Zeppo in honor of some ancient entertainers. She understood they were meant for security; to "protect her virtue" as her mother explained it. Ever curious, Daisy had done a little research on this phenomenon of virtue and went only as far as discovering that there were people, human and alien alike, who did icky things to little girls. Not wishing to learn any details beyond "icky", Daisy settled on the concept that her furry companions would protect her virtue from anything icky. Intelligent as she was, she was still quite young and preferred to avoid learning anything unpleasant.
Humming, she donned the bright yellow dress the clothing unit had laying out on the extended shelf. It ended at mid-thigh and was reminiscent of the style of the 1960's. Old and ancient fashions were popular with kids at Daisy's upscale school right now. Several of Daisy's friends were into the Victorian Age while others preferred the Lunar Colonization era stuff. Daisy's best friend had introduced her to the vibrant colors of the nineteen sixties and for several months now it was the only time period that Daisy would wear.
After a well-balanced breakfast courtesy of the automated kitchen, Daisy collected her school pad and went outside with the gronduks trotting with her. She left early as she knew there would be a new delivery of trinkets at the Fun Bodega. She and her friends loved the tiny figurines for collecting and playing with and even wearing as a bauble.
"Hello, Mr. Toorn," she chirped at the proprietor.
