In the future, a world far from Earth was colonized by humans. Its original designation was simply C74-A210ZB, based on a galactic charting directory. After a few decades, it earned the appropriately inspired name, New Gomorrah.
Like its biblical namesake, it is a den of iniquity paradoxically combined with centers of culture and learning. Anything is available to the highest bidder - or simply taken by force or by subterfuge. Among the most prized commodity among all races are young human females. By quirks of biology, they can be easily used for breeding purposes for a variety of species as well as for sexual pleasure.
Lucra eyed the slight girl who came into the office. She was slim and white-skinned with her dark brown hair cut in what the humans called a page boy cut. Befitting her family's rather poor background, her clothing was simple and unremarkable.
The girl looked worried, which Lucra had expected since she had been summoned to her school principal's office. Turning to face her directly, he grinned widely, his yellow serrated teeth gleaming in his dark red face. When the child's eyes widened, he gave her a playful waggle of one of his pointed ears.
Lucra knew his species bore a remarkable resemblance to some of the human characters of a deity they called the Devil or Satan. In fact, the human name for his race, Diablans, was rooted in this. While some of his kind railed at such a designation that hinted toward evil, Lucra found it worked in his favor when dealing with many humans.
But right now, this girl was more concerned about why her principal wished to see her. According to her file, she was well-behaved, which would explain her current anxiety about possibly "being in trouble". Having bribed a data clerk at the clinic the girl visited for mandated annual physical exams, Lucra knew she had the chemical make-up that he was seeking. The secondary check of her completely empty disciplinary record at school made her the perfect candidate - one who could be made to cooperate.
When at last Mandi was called into the principal's office, she was surprised to see the sinister-looking alien following her in. Mrs. Bolange, the principal made the introductions.
"Mr. Lucra, this is Amanda Farmer, or Mandi as she prefers to be called. Mandi, this is Mr. Lucra, a personnel resources manager with Anteg Bio Products. He has some exciting news for you."
Lucra bowed slightly to the girl before speaking.
"I have had the opportunity to review your school records - academic and aptitude tests. Anteg is always on the lookout for promising young talent for our apprenticeship program and I must say you are most suitable."
Mandi was confused. She was a good student but was not at the top of her class. Both Mrs. Bolange and this Mr. Lucra seemed quite pleased with her, almost eager that she was here. But there was another odd thing and this she put to voice.
"But I'm only eight. Don't I have to be twelve before I can be an apprentice?"
